Beginning with the first phone call...we are here to support you. InnerRoads families receive support, education, and guidance every step of the way. Parents have an essential role in the treatment process. Each parent can have a direct and powerful impact on their child’s growth. Here are some things that you can expect from us and we expect of you during the 6-week program.

Days 1-29  |  Journey into the Wilderness
Parents are asked to attend parent groups while their child is in the field. The first day of the program there will be a five hour parent workshop. During treatment, the parent group therapist will facilitate letter writing between parent and child. The adolescent therapist will also make weekly phone calls to give you up-to-date progress on your child. InnerRoads Wilderness Program strives to communicate in the most effective way so that you may have as much knowledge and understanding as possible. You will receive emails with detailed maps so you can follow your child's progress through his/her wilderness journey.

Days 29-31  |  Family Reunion Weekend
When solo ends, the youth walk out of the wilderness as their parents walk in from the trailhead, and the families spend the next two days engaged in family activities and therapy. During the weekend, your child will communicate most likely, in new ways. Teenagers at this point have often found the courage to say what is closest to their hearts. Through family sessions with the parent group therapist and adolescent therapist, honesty is emphasized. The weekend incorporates shared meals, bow drill demonstrations, and structured and nonstructured family time.

Days 31-43  |  Homestead
Family reunion ends when homestead starts. During homestead, parents still participate in their parent group. Family sessions will continue to take place during homestead, focusing on long term planning, as well as some family activities including art projects and meals. Parents are welcome to join the group at any time, whether at the homestead or in Missoula while volunteering.

Day 43  |  Graduation
This is the last day of the program. There will be a slideshow, food, and socializing. The whole family is encouraged to attend. The night is filled with a renewed sense of hope.
