Group Home - Susan Talbot Home For Girls

Program Description
The Susan Talbot Home for Girls is a five-bed intensive level therapeutic group home serving adolescent girls. The program specializes in the treatment and supervision of girls with severe emotional problems stemming from a history of abuse, neglect or exploitation. At our five-bed home, located in a residential neighborhood, a caring staff provides an environment where young women can learn life skills, gain insight, participate in community programs, and make positive changes in their lives.

Susan Talbot Home for Girls on Tower Street provides a safe environment for adolescent girls.

Program Structure
At the Home for Girls, youth receive:

  • A safe, stable and creative environment with an on-staff therapist, highly trained youth care workers and a Home Manager
  • Group therapy three times per week, individual sessions twice per week and family therapy as prescribed - focused on developing healthy coping and problem-solving skills
  • A highly structured system, using graduated privileges, that teaches social skills and encourages positive behavior
  • Access to community resources, including local Missoula schools, cultural and recreational activities and involvement in community service projects

Placement Criteria
Susan Talbot Home for Girls targets adolescent girls, ages 12 to 17, who are experiencing severe emotional problems including disorders of relationship, conduct, mood and trauma. Many of the girls we serve are victims of domestic violence, physical and sexual abuse, and neglect. Many of the girls have acted out their issues in minor delinquencies or other anti-social behaviors, present as impulsive and oppositional or they have directed their frustration inward and have very low self-esteem and may be suicidal in thought.
