Become a Foster Care or Adoptive Parent
What does it take to be
a Foster
Care or Adoptive Parent?
We need stable, caring and energetic adults who are willing to commit to keeping
child for a minimum of one year. Foster and adoptive parents need to
provide physical care, daily management of the child, discipline, activities,
relationship building and nurturing.
We ask that our parents be at least 18 years old, have some experience with
children and have an income sufficient to support you and your family. A
monthly, non-taxable stipend is provided to pay for the care of the foster
child. We don’t require you to be married, or have had children of your own,
or that you own your residence.
Foster and Adoptive Parents must be able to work as part of the care team,
accept a child’s birth parents as part of the child’s life, and be able to deal
with the different issues facing these children. Everyone living in the household
must be involved in the application process – not just the parents. We want
foster families for these children and we have a broad definition of family.
Children may need a place as short
as a weekend break (respite) or as
long as a lifetime. We have many
different children coming from various
backgrounds and circumstances. The
children’s ages range from toddler to
teenagers. We don’t place more than
one child in a home unless the children
are siblings.
Youth Homes’ placements are
very successful due to our in-depth
application and training process and
the care we take in matching families
with children. We are proud of
the positive outcomes we see in
the stability and growth of children
placed through our Foster Care and
Adoption Program.
